Verizon and Sprint users have long wished for a version of RIM's stellar BlackBerry Pearl, and the BlackBerry Pearl 8130 offers built-in GPS and broadband 3G data speeds over EV-DO, neither of which is available on the AT&T and T-Mobile 8100 models. It also comes with an upgraded 2-megapixel camera with 5X zoom and flash did okay with snapshots and landscapes; stereo Bluetooth; a 3.5mm headphone jack; a microSDHC-compatible card slot; a video capture mode; and small 2.25-inch, 240-by-260-pixel screen, which is otherwise bright, sharp, colorful, and easy to read. In addition, the 8130 retains all the traits that made the original 8100 series a success, including its svelte and attractive design, SureType keyboard, backlit trackball, and solid voice quality.
The 8130 takes video at the 240 by 180 and 176 by 144 resolutions; you'll need a microSD card (not included with our test unit) to shoot and store clips. To take a picture you must go into the camera application and press the trackball, since the device has no dedicated shutter button. Features
